Shady Acres Church of Christ | Ladies In Fellowship TogetherVolume 1, Issue 2 October 2006 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month Each year, 182,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and 43,300 die. A report from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) estimates that about 1 in 8 women in the United States (approximately 12.6 percent) will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. (National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. Web Site). In addition, 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 400 will die this year. If detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95%. Early detection is the best cure for breast cancer. Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram. God is good all the time and all the time God is Good! We have 3 known precious souls at this time that are survivors: Sis. Reedie Watkins, Sis. Patricia Brown and Sis. Fontella Davis. Let’s continue to pray for them and get our check-ups as needed, especially if you have a family history of breast cancer. |
